We often receive comments and feedback from local residents and visitors. I am attaching a letter we received from a visitor from Pennsylvania. It is a pretty accurate representation of what we hear from many visitors.
Subject: lodging & restaurants
My wife & I were up to Union Springs this past Tues, Wed & Thurs. We were up around your nice little town to do a little fishing. Very nice marina, very friendly people very eager to help out . We are getting older and everybody was very helpful. However there are no motels or restaurants as you know. We had to drive out to RT 20 to find a place to sleep or eat. Would love to come back up in the fall but don’t want to drive 20 miles or so to eat or sleep. If you have any information as to where lodging and dinning can be found we would come back up. We live in northeast pa.18224. Please advise & thank you.
As I try to promote our community, enhancing our business district has been at the top of my list. Adding a drugstore, a small hotel, maybe a brewpub and other ideas have been discussed.
The Cayuga County Soil & Water Aquatic Vegetation Control Harvester has been launched. This is a long sentence to describe the large yellow floating paddle boat that cleans the shore line of our section of Cayuga Lake. You can’t miss it if you are on or near the lake this time of year. Additionally, it pulls a barge to gather and de-water the seaweed, before off loading into another county vehicle to haul away. This process does a good job in helping to control the many invasive species that regularly clog our shores.
Also, I would like to encourage everyone to put their yard waste in recyclable paper bags. This is much better for the environment and saves our DPW staff much time in the transfer and disposal process. The bags can be obtained at most home center stores, or call us for more information.
On Saturday, August 6th, the Union Springs Community Band will be playing a free concert in the gazebo on Route 90 next to the T.U.C.C. church. The music gets underway at 7 pm.
